The Wendl Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization based in Saint Louis began their crowdfunding pledge drive on Friday, July 25th on the website indiegogo.com. The goal of the online pledge drive will be to raise money to purchase laptop computers to disadvantaged children living in the city of St. Louis School District.

Students who live in the Riverview Gardens unaccredited school district can currently opt out and attend class in another district. Despite performance statistics that are terrible in reading and mathematics, the city of St. Louis does not give students that same option. There are only so many needs-based scholarships to private brick-and-mortar schools and charter schools have limited space. A poor parent living in the city of St. Louis has only one option at that point: opt out of the traditional school system and have their child use an online/virtual school.CrowdFunding marketing

The main constraint in attending a virtual school is the cost of a laptop computer. Our crowdfunding event will raise money to provide laptop scholarships to children living in the city of St. Louis who qualify for the federal free and reduced student lunch program and use a virtual school option.
